Data-Intensive Computing Initiative (DICI)

Focus Areas

This initiative approaches innovative solutions in data-intensive computing by focusing solutions on three major areas of application.

molecular and graph image collage Scientific Discovery and Insight (SDI) involves collecting and integrating large volumes of scientific data from instruments and computational tools to provide insight and understanding of complex systems (e.g., global climate change, systems biology, and chemical transformations).
map of USA shown with colorful connecting networks Decision Support and Control (DSC) requires real-time data processing (often with data coming from sensors) to automatically provide an immediate and controlled response.

To show how data-intensive solutions can be applied to specific problems, we are building demonstrations for these focus areas that integrate the various technologies being developed through the initiative.

For a poster illustration of these demonstrations, download the Data-Intensive Computing In Action poster (jpg, 1MB).
