Ian Gorton, DICI Chief Architect, is Guest Editor of IEEE Computer's April 2008 issue. This special issue on data-intensive computing brings together contributions from leading scientists that address current and future problems and describe promising solutions in data-intensive computing.

Computer is the flagship publication of the 85,000-member IEEE Computer Society and publishes peer-reviewed technical content that covers all aspects of computer science, computer engineering, technology, and applications.

Gorton co-authored the issue's introduction, Data-Intensive Computing in the 21st Century, along with additional Guest Editors Paul Greenfield of Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Alex Szalay of John Hopkins University, and Roy Williams of the California Institute of Technology.

Abstract: The deluge of data that future applications must process-in domains ranging fro science to business informatics-creates a compelling argument for substantially increased R&D targeted at discovering scalable hardware and software solutions for data-intensive problems.

Computer issues from 1988 to the present are available for free to IEEE Computer Society members. Single article downloads are available for $19 to nonmembers.
