Using MeDICi for Scientific Workflow

Challenge:

This demonstration provides an environment for groundwater modeling that promotes ease of use for scientists and that can be easily modified and scaled to meet future research needs.

Approach:

STOMP is a general purpose computer model tool that simulates subsurface flow and transport and compliments multiple analytical tools. This demonstration integrates the existing STOMP model setup and visualization tools used by PNNL researchers with a workflow and model execution environment built on MeDICi. This approach enables STOMP to be wrapped as a MeDICi component, which can be included easily in any number of workflows defined by scientists.

Impact:

MeDICi provides a more scalable, flexible scientific workflow environment for ground-water modeling. Recent enhancements to MeDICi make it faster and less expensive to build scientific workflows in many science domains. MeDICi does this by accelerating the collection and evaluation of data by scientists who are exploring contaminant levels in the groundwater and their movement.
